Playing with Color in a Hat

Today I was trying to get the color right on this yarn. I am working on a hat in Malabrigo Rios in Purple Mystery. Good name for a colorway that I couldn’t capture in photo. The viewfinder kept making it blue. I gave up and decided to try my hand at photoshop. Only when I put it on my computer the hat looks totally purple. I have nothing to say to that. Please pardon the terrible picture, by this point I had given up on staging and was taking pictures under different light sources. The flash did make the hat a bit brighter, but the color is close.

  1. I've found that making a faux light-box helps capture colors better and makes it easier to correct them in Photoshop. I just set up a white back drop and “floor” for the item to sit on and try to take pictures in natural light for the best effect. (I usually use two stacks of white printer paper for the effect or use my washer with white paper behind it to do this.)

Thanks for the info. I normally take pictures on dark surfaces, I will have to try light:)
